Issue #640  (Wispr Flow Review, Frameworks, Testing, Media)10/23/25

            | The following is a paid product review for Wispr Flow, a native voice-to-text app for Mac, Windows, and iPhone that converts speech into clear, polished writing and code. In the current AI boom, you may have already come across text-to-speech solutions that attempt to improve on some of the native or built-in tools you might have on your current desktop and mobile devices. One such solution offers you the ability to "work at the speed you think in every app you use."
That's the tool I'm featuring this week, called Wispr Flow.
Here's what Wispr Flow (also simply referred to as "Flow") allows you to do:
More than double your typing speed (e.g. 45 WPM to 220 WPM), as you switch from pure typing to dictatingUse voice-to-text dictation in any text box in any app on your deviceFor development, talk to AI tools like Cursor and Claude for faster coding, debugging, and building technical docsLog issues, speed through PRs, and write stand-up updates at twice the speed or more As you can see, depending on the device and context of your work, Wispr Flow opens up huge possibilities for increased productivity.
 Installing Wispr Flow
As mentioned, Wispr Flow is available as a native app for Mac, Windows, and iOS 18.3+. When you install on desktop, you'll be logged in and the app will ask for some basic info to get you started. Once installed, you'll run a few quick tests to ensure your mic is working properly.

Part of the setup requires you to select your preferred spoken languages, which you can change in your settings at any time.

                  | style="color: #c54a28;text-decoration: none;font-weight: normal;" target="_blank"> | Setting up your languages in Wispr Flow The Wispr Flow home dashboard gives you a good overview of the features, which includes a dictionary, commonly used snippets, notes, and more. Wispr Flow's home section on the desktop app As you can see in the top-right area of the app's Home tab, Wispr Flow tracks your usage and provides real-time stats, showing you the number of words you've dictated, words-per-minute, and more info that's available when you click the stats bar.

Viewing analytics in Wispr Flow Use Cases for Wispr FlowNow that you have a basic idea of Wispr Flow's features, let's consider some of the different ways you might use it. Wispr Flow covers just about any use case in a tech environment:

Replying to emails, comments, and issues in your personal style and toneDictate into a text box in any of your essential tech apps, including Chrome, VS Code, Cursor, GitHub, ChatGPT, Bolt, Replit, and more.Boost productivity in your writing and project management tools like Notion, Gmail, Slack, WhatsApp, Google Drive, Jira, Trello, Obsidian, Evernote, Substack, and others. That's just a sample of the apps it integrates with automatically. Basically, if the app has a text box, Wispr Flow is always one shortcut key away from accurate speech-to-text dictation.
Features for Vibe CodingWispr Flow includes features to enhance your already established AI coding workflow. Two such features are:

File tagging by voiceVariable recognition with syntax awareness By default, file tagging in chat in the Cursor and Windsurf IDEs is enabled but you can also enable variable recognition in VS Code and the others (it's already enabled for GitHub, terminals, and Notion). Vibe Coding settings in Wispr Flow on desktopThe idea behind variable recognition is to ensure your voice dictation doesn't stumble on variable names. Your speech is parsed with full syntax awareness, with application for camelCase, snake_case, spacing, formatting, and it will even interpret CLI commands and other developer jargon.
 Dictionary and Snippets
As mentioned earlier, two of the core features of Wispr Flow are Dictionary and Snippets (available in the left sidebar of the desktop app). The Dictionary is divided into items that are "Personal" and "Shared with team", or you can use the "All" tab to view the whole lot.
Your custom Dictionary in Wispr Flow Your Dictionary will have items that are often technical terms that you want to ensure the voice dictation recognizes and spells correctly in context. This could include commonly-used names like SQLite or Cloudflare or anything that you use on a regular basis that might get misunderstood without context.
The Snippets section is similar to a text expander but is triggered by voice-activated keywords or phrases rather than something typed on a keyboard.
Your commonly-used Snippets in Wispr Flow As shown above, in my Snippets section I've included a bunch of different keywords that will type out emails that I send out repeatedly. In your case, you might save some often-used code snippets or other text blocks that you don't want to have to retype every time you need them.
 Smart Formatting
Lastly, one of the most powerful features in Wispr Flow is its ability to type what you mean not what you say. This means in email or document context Flow will automatically polish your sentences. That means even corrections are recognized. For example, the phrase:

"Let's meet Tuesday at 2pm... actually let's meet Tuesday at 4pm."

 Will be corrected to:

 "Let's meet Tuesday at 4pm."

This way the app is focusing on dictating your actual train of thought without all the unnecessary clutter. Of course, there are rare cases where you might find this type of correction disrupts what you want written out. You disable this by going to Settings → System → Extras and turning off "Smart formatting".

 Try Wispr Flow Free
In conclusion, Wispr Flow has some simple but powerful features that can easily boost your typing speed and overall productivity. When you sign up and install it, you'll have access to the Pro version for 14 days before you're downgraded to the Basic (free) plan.
